CCTV has come a long way from the grainy, black and white pictures that people often expect. Rapid development in camera technology over the past decade has resulted in sharper pictures, clearer colours, and digital video makes a wide range of features and services available, as well as the ability to use a range of infrastructure and components. Alternatively it can be useful to monitor processes taking place where it would be dangerous or impractical for a human to be, such as in industrial processes. In fact CCTV’s origins lie in being used to monitor rocket launches, where the toxic gases released by the rocket would have killed anyone watching in person.

One of the benefits of modern technology is that with digital cameras your system can be monitored from anywhere in the world over a secure connection. When it comes to recording your footage, those huge banks of VCRs and shelves of tapes are ancient history. Digital footage is recorded digitally, and active triggers means that footage is only stored when the camera is actually ‘seeing’ something happen. Scalable recording quality allows you to trade off capacity for picture quality, allowing you to tailor your system to your needs without buying equipment you don’t need.
